Local Development Framework
The land use planning system is
changing and you have the opportunity to get involved in planning a sustainable
District through a new Local Development Framework. This will replace the
Council's Local Plan and also contain policies and proposals to help achieve the
objectives of the Community Strategy.
A New Planning System
The Town and Country Planning
System is currently undergoing its most significant reform since its inception
in the late 1940's. To instigate this reform process the Government has enacted
the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Part 2 of the Act relates to the
production of Local Devlopment Frameworks
and commenced in September 2004. This requires the preparation of a new
generation of plans (to be called Local Development Frameworks), which will be
shorter, more flexible and prepared with greater community involvement. The
Council has committed itself to preparing a plan under the new system rather
than continuing with an 'old style' local plan. This approach has many
advantages including a longer 'shelf life' for the plan and the opportunity to
develop planning policies alongside the Community Strategy. Please click on the
individual Local Development Document links below. These documents will form the
Lichfield District Local Development Framework.

Plan Review
In October 2004 we consulted on papers covering initial issues and options for
the Core Strategy, Generic Development Control Policies and Allocations of Land,
and Site Development Policies. These initial issues and options
have been developed through consideration of
representations recieved and
preferred options documents formulated.
Preferred options documents are now currently available for the Core Strategy
(to include Generic Development Control Policies) and Allocation of Land and
Site Development Policies. In addition a Statement of Community Involvement has
been drafted that sets out how you can get involved in the formation of policies
and proposals in the Lichfield District Local Development Framework, as well
as in the determination of planning applications.
The consultation period for these documents
ends on the 24th March 2005, and all documents can be addressed by
