Cuckoo Bank:    Ian and Bevan walked the main track from east to west (from 10pm to 12.30am) looking at Pools 31 and 10 for signs of any frogs, toads or newts.  Pool 31 was too cloudy with silt washed in from the surrounding fields to see anything.  In Pool 10 they found several Smooth Newts (both sexes) already in residence and a female on the land a few metres from the pool.   On the main track not far from Pool 10 they found a ~ Great Crested Newt which they transported to the pool.  Toads were also seen in Pool 10 and several all the way along the track.   No owls calling - in fact very quiet up there apart from distant traffic noise.
